Length of time in dollmaking: I started with cloth dolls in 1980 and progressed to sculpting in the last 4 years, but continue to enjoy working in every medium.

Comments on your dollmaking: I can't remember a time in my life when I didn't want to create something in the artistic sense. In the last few years I have come to recognize that the doll as an "artform" is the one creative endeavour where I can utilise almost every skill learned over a lifetime of creative pursuit, from sculpting to painting to sewing and beyond. The satisfaction of being able to combine all of the things that I love to do best is beyond description. I enjoy doing fantasy figures and I am currently doing more "character" type dolls. I especially love to sculpt faces that have a lot of history and the elderly hold a special place in my heart.
"Sarah" is a Winter Butterfly, stands 24 inches and is made of Cernit with glass eyes and a handmade mohair wig. Dressed in mint green angora knit, she is holding a "BabyFace Caterpillar", also an original design made in porcelain. Her removeable wings are hand quilted and embellished with pearls, glass beads and rhinestones and the floral garden base was also designed and constructed by the artist. She is one of a series of "Butterfly" dolls......each one having wings made in a different medium.
"Yalumi" is a lovely island dancer, 26 inches tall, made of Artist's Modelene, an Australian polymer clay. She has pierced ears, handmade jewelry and headpiece and is fully armatured and poseable. Return to Dollmakers Bios main page.
